Nathan Nyirenda caught the attention of many from the massive airplay of his smash title track Mwe Makufi.
This young man can certainly be described as one of Zambia's intelligent, sharp, confident and highly talented artists. Nathan is usually cool, calm and collected. He radiates a disposition of humility and maturity and yet strikes an eccentric sense of humour.
The controversial album touches the lives of many. This is a sentimental and provoking album. It is a poetic rendition of an individual's account of life and invites moments of serious reflection.
THE TRACKS
1. Mwe Makufi is a Bemba expression for "My Knees". It is a sentimental painting of The Zambian situation with a clarion call to prayer as its pinnacle and an effort to spur hearts to a wake up call . It preludes with a song that bides Zambia's Diaspora together - The National Anthem. It is a hotch - potch of emotions which climaxes with the glimmer of hope that principalities and unclean spirits cannot defeat the living God and Lord Of Hosts.
2. I Wish
This is a brief tour of fantasy island. It speaks of the lofty ideas that are conspicuous only in ones imagination. The song is a bridge between the unreal and the real. The thrust of the peace comes with the line 'All I have to do is turn my wish into a prayer and my wish will become a reality'.
3. Adada is a Tumbuka spillage of a man's troubles to his father. In its sombre demeanour, the chorus still sends you skunking to the island groove. It is a poetical presentation of a man coming to his wits end, to a point where only a power greater than himself can salvage him and he evokes that power.
4.Before I Die
This is a song that is performed live by Nathan in which he sings and exhibits his Piano prowess simultaneously. It addresses a subject that is so part of our lives and yet most feared to be talked about - Death.
5. Re Baeti: This is an up-tempo Setswana chorus that will keep you on your feet. It stresses that this world is not our home but we have a home up in heaven. We are but pilgrims on this earth.
6. Chikondi: This is a Nyanja song based on 1 Corinthians 13 that talks about the attributes of love.
7. Take Me Back is a ride down memory lane. It is of a person engrossed in nostalgia and giving a clean breast of his present state. It is a craving for getting back to that 'once upon a time.'
8. Mwe Makufi-Live is a live version performed with piano and voice only. It preludes with children singing the National Anthem in a contorted way in order to portray how the affairs of our country are - in sixes and sevens.
9. Mambo Sawa Sawa
It is an East African chorus that gives hope of things getting better due to God's deity. Nathan arranges it as a dance song.
10. In The Cross is a hymn in which Nathan fuses Jazz into a traditional gospel song. It is a desire to keep on track and never lose the security of Calvary.
